Definition post - pattern
Definition post - pattern:
Dictionary definition:A repeated decorative design.
Describing words: repetitive, coordinated, organised, designed, chequered, natural, man-made.
I have chosen these pictures as they show the wide range of patterns that can be found when you look around your surroundings. the first picture is more of a pattern that you would have actually look for its not something that your eyes meet in a natural setting. The second image is a more natural pattern even though its man-made. Where you find this pattern is something that would seem very natural also the face that its something that we see quite often it would be a natural pattern to the human eye. the last pattern is something that people would probably see quite often however its not something that i would typically call a pattern. This is a man made pattern as it has been made by someone but again because of the way the picture has been taken the setting and pattern look natural.
My definition of pattern: a repetitive design that is continuous.

Work diary - pattern
Work diary - pattern:
In this lesson out task was to take pictures of pattern. We had to include both natural and man made pattens. I found this task day as I found it easy to identify the patterns in things. However what I didn't find as easy was trying to decide what was a natural and what was a man made pattern. In some images this was easy however some I did struggle with.
Progression: If I was to re-do this topic I would try to incorporate some of my work from previous topics as I think that it would help to build up my collection of patterns. I Think that by including topics like line and colour I would be able to show variety of different patters and would be able to link all my skills so far. An example of this is the picture below as it shows how a white simple pattern has been broken by the bright vibrant colour of red.
I chose the picture above because I think it is one of my best pictures that show man made pattern. You can see the pattern of the main piece of stone, you can also see the pattern where it goes from a piece of stone to concrete. I also think this picture is one of my best because although it shows pattern its not the kind of picture I would typically think of when thinking pattern. I chose the picture below because I think its my best picture that shows natural pattern. The marks in the tree are not all exactly the same therefore it shows how the pattern is natural and hasn't been altered with by man.
If I could re-do this topic I would attempt to find and take pictures that show a more clear difference between natural and man made patterns. I would also try to take pictures with a wider range of patterns as I felt that some of my pictures were often alike.
This is your stereotypical idea of pattern as the same shapes are repeated throughout. Its also a man made pattern as it is following a design throughout. I chose to include this picture as it is very common pattern found in pavements.
This pattern is also man made as it has followed a design how ever the shapes and sizes are not exactly kept the same throughout. colours and shapes are still repeated so its still a pattern but not what someone would typically think of when you think pattern. I chose to include this picture to show how things that can have slight alterations can still be patterns.

Image bank - pattern
Image bank:
In the image above the pattern is made out of lines and is give a structure for your eyes to follow. The use of the man made pattern here is clear as the pattern has been thought about and made to follow a certain structure.
In this image a structure hasn't necessarily been followed yet the pattern is still man made. Someone has decided to structure the pieces in this way. While a structure may have been followed, this isn't made out to be obvious as there are different sized gaps and different sized pieces throughout.
In the image above this man made patter has followed a certain structure as the shapes and breaks are the same throughout. The end result of this effective because the whole thing follows the same structure resulting in a pattern that looks nice and stands out.
I have included these 3 images as they are man made patterns. The patterns in these pictures have been put there to follow a design. I like these pictures because they can show you the different environments in which you can find man made patterns. These pictures can range from a complex design to a simple design and it is clear from these images that the person who is styling the form of the patter often has freedom to decide how the pattern will look.
The image above is an example of a natural pattern that may have accrued over time or as a result of a natural disaster. The effective of this means the photo doesn't follow a certain structure and and lines or cracks in the image are not the same.
The image above is an example of a pattern on a leaf, this is a natural pattern that all leaves will have but none of the patterns will be the same. The photographer would have had to get extremely close to be able to achieve this picture as it is not easily visible. Therefore this is an example of how patterns can be found in many different places, and can be so small that there not always visible.
The image above shows pattern occurring on an animal, again this is a natural pattern as no animal will have the exact same pattern, there will always be a slight difference. This patter has not be tampered with at all and there is no way of changing it.
I have chosen these pictures as they show natural patterns. The 3 pictures I have chosen shows pattern on a plant and animal and a floor. This shows how patterns are all around even on the things you don't automatically notice. These natural patters don't have a particular structure that they have to stick to.
