Definition post - Contrast

Definition post - Contrast:

Dictionary definition:the state of being strikingly different from something else in juxtaposition or close association.

Describing words:Comparison, contradiction, disagreement, variation, opposite.

I have chosen these pictures from the internet as i feel they all show different types of contrast however the same kind of effect is given off. I think these pictures as i feel that all the pictures show contrast in a simple way by not having harsh or clearly shown differences  between the two different aspects of the photo. I think that these pictures are a good style of contrast to look at when looking at contrast as its a good way of showing how common contrast can be in photography.

My definition: Contrast is a distinctive difference or opposite between different things for example the contrast between male and female.

Definition post - portraiture

Definition post - portraiture

Definition:A portrait is a paintingphotographsculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant.

Describing words: portrayal, profile, account, sketch, figure, model, likeness.

These two pictures that I have chosen from the Internet are the typical kind of pictures that you would think of when thinking portraits. Both of the images show clearly who the person is and you are able to get a clear view of what they look like. The top picture is a more common studio portrait as all the natural colours from the studio where the picture has been taken has been left in. The picture below is a edited portrait where the photographer has decided to turn the picture black and white and then select one aspect and put some colour on it. This style of portrait changes the mood of the picture as it allows you to look at it from a completely perspective.

These two pictures from the Internet have taken more of a twist on the style that the portrait has been shown. The picture above shows a clear focus just on the person even though there is not a clear background. This is achieved by the blurring of the background as the photographer is able to make the background seem less important in this photo. The photo below is a pop art portrait, these show a more creative view of showing a portrait. The use of colour and simple abstract makes the picture more original and more of a more fun image to look at.

My definition: portraiture is a form of photography that clearly shows quite a detailed perspective of a person. Usually taken mainly of their face.

Definition post - texture

Definition post - texture:

Dictionary definition: the feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or a substance.

Describing words: rough, smooth, bumpy, bubbly, fine, chunky.

This picture shows texture as the photographer has clearler shows the different aspects of the wall and has been able to show that all the bricks are not the same. This picture is a good example of texture as it shows how one object can have more than one texture as all overall texture of the wall is the bricks and each brick has its own texture.

This picture shows more of a general texture as there is only on style of texture in this photo that is just repeated throughout the image. In this picture that texture is in each plank of wood that makes up the floor, and although the textures are not all exactly the same they still show the same idea of texture in the wood.

This picture is a more creative way of showing texture as it has been made by the soles of shoes indented in sand. I think that this picture is good at showing the effect that the texture of the shoes has when it meets the texture of the sand. This picture also shows different styles of texture as it has been made with different shoes to get a different pattern.

This picture shows how a large amount of something in this case stones, can create a type of texture. In this case the texture looks smooth and bumpy because of the fact that the stones dont all fit together in one piece to make a flat picture.

My definition: The way that a surface looks of feels.

Definition post - Shape

Definition post - shape:

Definition: a geometric figure such as a square, triangle, or rectangle.

Describing words: Triangle, Square, Circle, Rectangle.

This is a creative way of showing shape as it uses different shapes ( pencils) to create the main shape which is the circle. I think that this is a creative way of showing shape as its not a plain shape on its own its a shape tarts been up.

This picture is a collection of shapes that make up another shape. I think that this style of making shapes is effective as it shows how diverse shapes can be as it shows that they can look completely different when they are on there own than when they are put together.

This picture shows shape as each single heart is a shape. I think that this picture is effective as it shows the shapes on there own but by showing multiple of them it shows how they can be the same but different as the photographer has decided to alter the colour.

This picture shows how shape is found in everyday life. This picture of a fence shows how shapes make up pretty much everything that we can think of. I think that this picture is effect and fulfils its purpose as it shows how the shape is in its natural surroundings with a plain and simple background.

My definition: shape makes up everything that we can think of and is around us at all times even when we cant name the shape.

Definition post - movement

Definition post - movement:

Definition: An act of moving

Describing words: fast, slow, sudden, overdrawn,.

This picture shows movement as the surroundings behind the main point of the photo is blurred showing that something is either moving behind the teddy bear of the teddy itself is the one moving. i think this picture shows movement clearly as its not hard to be able to tell that there is some type of movement happening.

This picture shows movement in a different way as the part of the picture that is actually moving is the part that is blurred. i think that this picture is a good way of showing movement as the photographer has decided to keep the background plain so that the main focus of the image is on the piece that is actually moving.

This picture shows a completely different type of movement as its a natural movement. i think that this shows movement in a clear and effective way as it is something that is original and creative. i also think that this picture is good at movement as it looks completely natural and un-altered.

This picture also shows movement  without using colour. the picture still has the same effect as the train that is moving is still blurred giving a clear example of movement in photography.

My definition: Something moving from A to B.

Definition post - Tone

Definition post - Tone:

Definition of tone: to harmonise with (someone) in terms of colour.

Describing words for tone: attitude, mood, colourful, colourless, cold. emotion, emotionless.

I have chosen to include this picture because it shows tone through the use of the grey colours. The different shades of grey help to see the different elements of the picture. The fact that some of the tones are lighter than others means that some are a general lighter colour than the other. The tone in this picture helps create emotional and intriguing atmosphere.

I have chosen to include this picture because it shows how tone can be used to alter a picture and still let it look like a natural setting. The light grey almost white colour allows the idea of sunlight coming through into the setting. I think that the tone in this picture creates quite a calm and peaceful atmosphere.

The use of the dark tone in this picture helps to create the feeling of night time, yet the use of the light tones creates a more busy street like feel of the image. The use of tone in this picture helps to create the setting without it being so clear to the human eye.

The tone in this picture creates quiet a lonely desolate atmosphere, The use of the lighter colour to focus on the end of the picture helps to create the element of depth as well as help to create the atmosphere as it shows that a small amount of sunlight is seeping through.

My definition: the use of colour to create a atmosphere within a image.

Describing words: image, echo, counterpart, likeness, mirror image.

I have chosen to include these images and the show the range in reflections that can be produced. I think they show you natural reflection and relfection that has been altered by man to create the image they want. They can be used to express different emotions alongside the use of colour and tone. These pictures also show how reflections can be distaughted or an exact copy of whats being reflected.

Definition post - form

 Definition post - form:

Definition: The shape and structure of an object.

Describing words: mould, figure,framework,appearance.

I chose these photos because they all show form from different perspectives. All these ideas of form are completely different styles of form as they are all completely different objects. form of buildings is the easiest to identify as they have clear lines and shadows that identify the form of them. The other two show form by using the way that the light hits them. I like all these photos because they show the range in ways the photos of form can be taken.

My definition of form: the shape and structure of an object.

Definition post - depth

Definition post - depth:

Dictionary definition: the distance from the top or surface to the bottom of
something.

Describing words of depth: deepness, distance downwards, distance inwards, distance away, drop, vertical drop.

I have chosen these pictures because I think they are the best at showing depth in photography. I think the first picture shows how you can make depth out of house hold objects and also how depth is about the angle that you take the picture from. I also think its hows the basic idea of depth as its something that goes on and disappears into the distance and gets smaller. I chose the second picture because it shows how a single object on its own can show depth. the depth in the picture is created completely by the angle that the camera has been placed to take the picture from. I chose the last picture as although it doesn't show depth in as clear as way as the others, its still showing depth, as the main focus gets smaller and is continuous. I also think that the way the light is used helped to make it look more 3-D.

My definition of depth: A continuous distance from the start to the end of something.

Definition post - pattern

Definition post - pattern:

Dictionary definition:A repeated decorative design.
Describing words: repetitive, coordinated, organised, designed, chequered, natural, man-made.

I have chosen these pictures as they show the wide range of patterns that can be found when you look around your surroundings. the first picture is more of a pattern that you would have actually look for its not something that your eyes meet in a natural setting. The second image is a more natural pattern even though its man-made. Where you find this pattern is something that would seem very natural also the face that its something that we see quite often it would be a natural pattern to the human eye. the last pattern is something that people would probably see quite often however its not something that i would typically call a pattern. This is a man made pattern as it has been made by someone but again because of the way the picture has been taken the setting and pattern look natural.

My definition of pattern: a repetitive design that is continuous.

Definition post - colour

Definition post - colour

Dictionary definition: an attribute of things that results from the light they reflect, transmit, or emit in so far as this light causes a visual sensation that depends on its wavelengths.

Describing words: bright, vibrant, eye catching, bold, tint, undertone, light.

I chose this photo because it shows the effect that colour has. Personally I think that the colour in this photo changes the mood, without the little burst of colour I think this picture would look boring and dull. I also think this photo shows the effect colour can have on a picture.

I chose this photo as I think it shows how colour appears in natural environments. I think it shows how important colour is natural settings and everyday things.

I chose to include this picture because I think it shows how light effects the colour. I think it shows how light alters a picture, although its not changing the colours in the pictures, the light bounces on the dice and makes parts stand out more than others.

i chose this picture because it shows the colour in the background, and also the colour of the shoes. The colour in the background stands out where the light has hit the parts of the grass . Tthe brightness of the blue shoes against the white laces stands out because of the contrast of the two colours.

My definition: colour is a way that we identify the differences in things.

definition post - lines

Definition post

Dictionary definition: A long, narrow mark or band.

Describing words: straight, curved, bendy, narrow, short, long, rule, repeated.

I chose this photo because it shows how the line is travelling, the lines go from being straight to being curved.  You can also see how the line continues on into the distance where the picture itself ends.

I chose this photo because usually when you look at a leaf you don't generally look at the lines in them. I like this photo because the zoom is good so you can really see the natural lines in a leaf. This photo also shows the lines in a leaf are natural as the lines are not straight.

I chose this photo because the lines are not as clear however you can still see them. You can also see the lines at different angles. The lines in this photo are all actually the same length put from the point the picture was taken the ones at the end look shorter.

The lines in this photo don't look straight as the photo is of a tunnel, however the whole tunnel itself is made up of smaller lines. The lines in this photo give the photo definition so you can see how the tunnel continues on.

My definition: Lines make up everything that surrounds us in everyday life, they give things definition.
